New Faces, New Politics
Progressive Britain is proud to launch the Horizons Programme, an event series, aimed at supporting young people interested in working in politics from under-represented backgrounds
The programme aims to:
- Give practical knowledge of the many avenues and roles that are available, what to expect when applying, and what they can expect from working in politics, thinktanks and the wider Westminster eco-system.
- Give attendees a handle on an industry where formal guidance is often not available via FaceTime with speakers representing areas across the many different aspects of the sector.
- Help attendees understand the skills and experience they need, the expectations employers have and the complex political nature of these jobs.

"Politics can feel like a closed loop sometimes with those from certain backgrounds given opportunities over and over again.
The Horizons Programme is designed to open the door to those who don't have access to these regular opportunities and help them in their first steps into Politics."
Dylan Turner, Policy Manager, Horizons Programme Lead
Our Events
"This is brilliant from Progressive Britain. Politics should be for everyone, but it can seem intimidating or exclusive if you feel you're not from the 'right' background.
If you're a young person who wants to work in politics, sign up.

Programme Principles
Improves Opportunity
Free To Access
Targets Under-represented Groups
Cross-party
The Horizons Programme is based on a few fundamental principles that we strive to meet through our work.
Our key focus is to improve the opportunities for jobs and careers in and around Westminster that are unacceptably distant to many.
All our events are free for attendees. We feel this is an important principle as many of the barriers to opportunity exist simply due to cost. Our events are, if possible, recorded and uploaded on our YouTube channel.
The Horizons programme is targeting groups that are under-represented in and around Westminster. Your opportunities should not be limited by your class, sex or colour.
The programme also seeks to include representatives from different political perspectives to ensure all career paths are represented.
"I didn't know anyone working in politics, growing up.
I didn't know members of political parties, what that meant, or who that was for.
It was finding what I was passionate about and ways to volunteer that started my journey.
This scheme seeks to help more people start theirs"
Claire Hazelgrove, Labour MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke
