Young people are getting a raw deal on pay and on housing. How can Labour make the economy work for them?

YMCA is the largest and oldest youth charity in the world. Each year we provide a home to over 20,000 young people, many of whom arrive at a YMCA due to family break down, leaving care or finding themselves on the streets or sofa surfing. Most of the young people who come to live in YMCA supported accommodation will be surviving on benefits.
The majority struggle to afford their day-to-day costs but they are also stalled in their ability to rebuild their independence, move into work and move into a safe and stable home, simply because the benefit system works against them. If we are able to make work pay for this cohort of young people, then we have the ability to unlock their futures and reduce the burden on the taxpayer.
